The Santuario de Nuestra SeΓ±ora de la Merced in Matatalaib, Tarlac City is the only Marian Shrine in the Diocese of Tarlac that has a π¦π£πππππ ππ’π‘π with a Papal Basilica.
On September 8, 2021, the said Shrine got a blessing in the form of a spiritual bond to One of the 4 Major Basilica in Rome, the Papal Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, the oldest church in the world that is dedicated to Our Lady.
Exactly a year ago today, the Formal Declaration of the bond was led by Most. Rev. Enrique V. Macaraeg, D.D., Bishop of Tarlac in the Shrine of Our Lady of Mercy in Matatalaib.
Because of this spiritual connection, anybody who visits the Diocesan Shrine and Parish of Nuestra SeΓ±ora de La Merced will always be granted the same graces and indulgences that are granted to visitors to the Papal Basilica in Rome, Italy.
